Haulin’ Class TV’s ‘Ask an Elite Car Hauler’ Q&A #1

Now that I’m hauling million dollar cars in an enclosed carrier for one of the most elite companies in the world, I get asked a lot of questions so I thought I’d do a Q&A post now and then, just for fun.

If you have any questions for me, feel free to drop them in the comments and I’ll get to them in a future post.

Q: How long have you been hauling cars?

A: I’ve been a car hauler since 1997. Before that, I did a bit of towing work and also drove a flatbed, tankers and did other types of trucking.

Q: How did you get into hauling cars?

A: I remember passing a car hauler on the freeway and saying to my wife, “if I ever get back into trucking that’s what I want to do”. At the time I was working in a gypsum factory in Wyoming and never dreamed a few years later I’d actually be hauling cars.

We had just moved to Montana and I was laid off from Mercer when I applied to a small, local car hauling company out of Whitefish and got hired on. They trained me and gave me the experience I needed to move on when a bigger company out of Seattle, that paid three times as much money, recruited me while I was at one of the auctions.

I went from hauling mostly auction cars (used car market) to hauling brand new Toyotas, Hondas and other well known brands from the ports and rail yards to the dealerships on an open carrier that usually held nine or ten cars at a time.

Q: When did you start hauling high end cars?

It wasn’t until last summer that I got a job with the company I’m with now. By the time I made it to hauling high end cars, I’d been driving an open carrier for 25 years.

Q: What is your favorite car you’ve hauled so far?

A: I think my favorite so far is this 1931 Chrysler Imperial I delivered to the Blackhawk Museum in Danville, Ca.

I haul a lot of cars to museums like Blackhawk and Petersons as well as private collectors who have museum-quality collections, which I’ll be giving an inside view of on the channel and writing about in future posts.

In the meantime, if you have any questions feel free to drop them in the comments and I’ll catch you next time.
